The hotel is at the southern end of the medina in the Kasbah neighbourhood. Down an alley off Rue de la Kasbah, you'll be greeted by smartly-dressed porters in red djellabas and fezzes.

Overlooking the 16th-century Saadian Tombs, it's a 10-minute walk from the hotel to the Jemaa el-Fnaa square and Bahia Palace.

By plane: London or Manchester to Marrakech takes around 3 hours 45 minutes, after which, it's a 10-minute drive to the hotel. Free parking available nearby. Book flights to Marrakech.

La Sultana feels like a luxurious sanctuary with its elaborate décor and selection of potted plants, flowers and slender cacti - ideal for couples seeking romance. You won't get lost around the amalgam of five riads, as the hotel provides free maps.

As well as free morning yoga, there's a heated pool, rooftop gym and hammam spa. Shope for wares at the in-house boutique or do a cooking class, where you could make traditional Moroccan dishes such as tagine and taktouka.

Food & Drink

Enjoy an al fresco lunch at rooftop restaurant La Table du Souk, or book a leisurely candle-lit dinner with oud music at La Table de La Sultana. We recommend the starter of 'the real harira soup', made with tomatoes and chickpeas, followed by perfectly cooked turbot with capers and celeriac purée.

La Table du Souk: Moroccan street food, locally sourced ingredients. Open daily for lunch.

La Table de La Sultana: Moroccan and French cuisine, seasonal menus. Open daily for breakfast and dinner.
