There are a number of hotels clustered together here, just west of central station - and this hotel is one of the best. This is a lively part of town, so whilst noisy at times, it's also convenient for entertainment and shopping, and has good transport connections.

A few minutes walk away is the Meatpacking District with its many bars, restaurants and galleries

There are some typically Danish touches in the interior - good lighting, pale wood floors and smart furniture from GUBI and Fritz Hansen - although the bold use of colour differentiates it from the crowd. Owner Karen Nedergaard is a fan of Designer's Guild, whose distinctive wallpapers and fabrics give the hotel its style and personality.

Helpful and charming staff are good at anticipating guests' needs - whether that's coming over to help with the coffee machine or offering up an umbrella on a rainy day. There's a fitness room, and bikes for hire, and guests can use a hotel smartphone, pre-loaded with local tips.

Bright and contemporary rooms have vibrant colours jazzing up otherwise white backdrops; accents could be blue and magenta or turquoise and lime. The same colours appear in the bathrooms, where there's also a souvenir rubber duck.

Breakfast is the only meal served here; it's a buffet, with platters of meats, cheeses and smoked salmon, yoghurts and fruit, bowls of cereal, plus some hot options. You'll need to eat out for other meals, but Vesterbro has plenty of good bars and restaurants, so it's no hardship.
