    After breakfast you will drive to Kinabalu Park, with a stop-off at the pretty rural village of Nabalu, where you can dip in hot springs. When you arrive at the park you will be taken on a guided tour of the mountain gardens, where you will see a diverse range of flowers, birds and butterflies.

    Today you fly to Sandakan where you will be met by Roger Munns at the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, dedicated to introducing captive orangutans back into the wild. Have lunch while cruising down the Lower Kinabatangan River, then check in at Sukau, a rustic B&B tucked away in the vegetation. In the afternoon you'll enjoy another cruise, to the Menanggul River, where you will be on the lookout for proboscis monkeys.

    Roger will accompany you on another river cruise, during which he'll share photography trips. Afterwards you'll visit the Gomantong Caves, where millions of swiftlets and bats bask in the darkness. In the evening Roger will give a talk about his career and hold a Q&A.

    Head back to Sandakan and take a tour of some of its most important sites, including the Australian War Memorial, Puh Jih Syh temple, Agnes Keith House Museum and a traditional market. Fly back to Kota Kinabalu for an evening at leisure.

Star Clipper


Traditional tall ship with 36,000 feet of billowing sails

The elegant Star Clipper was launched in 1992 and is a replica of the traditional clipper ships of the 19th-century. The interiors hark back to the golden era, with plenty of polished mahogany and brass. In addition to the main dining room, there is also the Piano Bar, as well as the lively Tropical Bar, used for all manner of activities. The two small plunge pools are perfect for those days spent at sea, and there's always a fantastic programme of entertainment, fitness classes and workshops to keep guests busy.
